Incipio's new offGRID Rugged Battery Case for iPhone 5 ($90) looks like a combination of its standard offGRID combined with elements of its highly protective Atlas case. The result is a battery case that can take a beating, or at least more of one than most competitors can. offGRID Rugged's sled component into which the iPhone connects seems to be identical to that of offGRID, although it only has a 2000mAh cell, down from 2600mAh on that earlier model. The new piece is the frame, a somewhat thick combination of rubber and plastic, that snaps around the handset. It offers button protection plus shock absorption.
